HESS served as the Construction Manager at Risk for the demolition of the existing school and the construction of a new three-story, 80,121-SF school on the same site. The modernization included the renewal of the 38,000-SF existing building, and the addition of approximately 42,121-SF. The new facility houses traditional classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria and administrative areas. Site improvements included exterior building improvements, baseball and soccer fields, outside amphitheater, paved play areas, new playground equipment and landscaping and student garden. The new Carderock Springs Elementary School was designed to achieve LEED Silver certification; however, HESS exceeded the expectation and the school achieved a LEED Gold certification.
